It’s time to keep this jailbreak show going, so let’s continue this series and find out more ways to improve and tweak your iPad once jailbroken.

Get GPS on a Wi-Fi version iPad

If you tend to be on the road a lot, the Wi-Fi version of the iPad’s lack of GPS might be a major disappointment. Of course, seeing how this iPad version would be a bit useless in on-road GPS due to a constant loss of internet signal as you drive, one cannot completely blame Apple for omitting it. It does come with the 3G version, however. Nonetheless, if you have the Wi-Fi version, you can connect it to an external GPS through Bluetooth after a jailbreak.

For this Bluetooth connectivity, BTstack comes to the rescue once again. We already discussed in part 2 of this series how the developer helped us with connecting a jailbroken iPad to a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard, and they have also made an app to enable GPS. Look for BTstack GPS in Cydia and install it. It will set you back $5 for the download, which is not too bad. Once installed, disable the iPad’s Bluetooth, and then run the BTstack GPS app. Make your external GPS discoverable. The app will then search for devices. Once yours is discovered, select it on the iPad. You will now have GPS capability via Bluetooth on your Wi-Fi iPad and can be on your way to your destination.

View iPhone apps in full-screen

There are many iPhone apps that you can run on the iPad, but you may want to view them in full-screen mode. In Cydia, there is a free app called FullForce that will handle all the dirty work for you so you can view larger on-screen versions of iPhone apps on the iPad with little distortion. This app is a worthy install if you are impatient and don’t want to wait for app developers to release versions meant specifically for the iPad’s resolution. The final results will depend on the app itself, and your mileage may vary, but this is still a worthy download to add to your jailbroken iPad.

These tips for some starting apps to download to your newly jailbroken iPad are just some of the plethora of apps and newer functions that you can add. The more time that passes, there will surely be more apps developed. As you can see, if you do take the plunge to jailbreak your iPad, it definitely has its advantages. Although it is a powerful and wonderful device to begin with, it surely can do more, and that is what jailbreaking is all about. It’s about getting the maximum out of your device.

Hopefully you enjoyed these tips. Keep coming back in the future, however, as there are plenty more on the horizon.
