iPad Games: Words With Friends HD is Super Scrabblesque
If you’re a fan of word games, Words With Friends HD is perhaps the best of its type available for iPad right now. It’s the most popular word game in the US this week, and holds a rank of 17th over all for app downloads. Dare I say it: it’s even better than scrabble! Although the gaming style is exactly the same, the board is set differently. Similarities include double and triple word scores, and of course it’s a turn based game. I work with words throughout the day so usually the last thing I want to do is play with them some more in the evenings. However, after trying out Words With Friends HD I’m getting more and more into leisure wording as well…
iPad Games: Real Tennis HD for iPad Serves Wide
At the end of the Grand Slam tennis season, the play comes to the US with the American Open. At the end of June I reviewed another tennis game during the Wimbledon fortnight, Ace Tennis 2010. To finish off the 2010 season let’s have a look at Real Tennis HD for iPad to see if playing it will keep you interested in tennis during the winter months.
iPad Games: Miriel The Magical Merchant HD Cooks Up A Great Game
What a delightful little game this is. I’m guessing it’s been designed for female customers (or is that me being sexist) but I am unashamed to say I’ve really enjoyed playing this game. This is the fantasy realm’s answer to the Wal-Mart Family. Miriel is a humble shop-keeping girl with a gift for magical powers. As the storyline progresses she establishes her growing emporium of bakery shops, following adventures and solving puzzles / mini-games along the way. This is a gentle and relaxing game, but it’s anything but boring. It still requires skill and perseverance. Perhaps if your overplaying of first-person shooters is giving you nightmares, Miriel the Magical Merchant HD could be the perfect remedy.
iPad Games: Hero of Sparta 2 HD Is Blood Thirsty Brilliance
I had a look at this game last week. Quite often, once I’ve evaluated a game, one of my kids has a go to see if they like it. I was in the kitchen on Friday when I heard Tom shout, “Dad, this is awesome”. He was raving about of Sparta 2. Tom’s in Junior High and is a real action game junky. “It’s even better than the first one”. I agree with him; Hero of Spart 2 HD is totally mint. It’s explosive action, great story-telling, superb graphics and brilliant animation. It’s a real fighting game fest…
iPad Games: Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter for iPad in Jurassic Paradise
The most popular Action game this week in the USA is Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter for iPad. Even a short spell of playing time on this game will easily show you why. As its title suggests, Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter is a first person shooter hunting game. Stephen Spielberg’s Jurassic Park may well have been an inspiration for this game, and its suspense, graphics, animation, sounds and playability give it the polished sheen of any Hollywood blockbuster movie. The gaming concepts are easy to learn but difficult to execute, making Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter for iPad a thoroughly entertaining challenge. This is a great way to waste an hour… or 3…
iPad Games: Highborn HD is High and Mighty Hilarious Gaming
What a great game this is! Highborn HD is a turn-based RPG that doesn’t take itself too seriously. In fact, its storyline is hilarious and full of comedy moments; it may well having you laughing out loud at your iPad. Unfortunately it isn’t perfect, containing some basic errors that really should’ve been fixed before launch. That said, it’s well worth the money, with plenty of good gaming along the way.
iPad Games: Alpine Crawler World HD Drives Wild
Residing in the top 10 of US Racing Game downloads is Alpine Crawler World HD. This isn’t your traditional racing game as you are pitted against the course itself rather than against other drivers on your iPad. That said, there’s a great leader board to access using your internet connection where you can rank your progress against other drivers. Alpine Crawler World HD first appeared on the iPhone but it’s found its real home on the iPad with its larger screen estate. This is a fabulous game, well made and extremely addictive.
iPad Games: Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box Opens to Fangtastic Response
This is another fang-tastic vampire adventure game that’s been available on iPad for a month. Developed by Alawar Entertainment, Vampire Saga: Pandora’s Box is establishing its mark on the iPad gaming circuit, enjoying a top 10 spot in the USA Top 200 Adventure Games downloads. This game is based on the previous PC release and is also available on iPhone. This game is right up my dark alley: it’s mysterious, spooky and full of surprises. At its heart it’s an object hunting game but don’t let that put you off. There are puzzles to solve, over 300 objects to find plus 11 secret hidden object game scenes, alongside 5 mini games to keep you occupied.
iPad Games: More Free iPad Games: We Farm for iPad is a Backwoods Beauty
Straight out of the same stable as ‘We Rule’ comes the very similar ‘We Farm’ game by ngmoko. It’s a farm building simulation game and bears a very close resemblance to Farmville, a game that’s taken Facebook by storm. This is a great game for anyone with a god-complex. You begin as a poor little backwoods redneck living in a ram shackled old farm house with just some land to sustain you. If you listen very carefully you can just about make out the sound of duelling banjos in the distance, and the natives screaming, “Ride him like a pig, uncle”… Seriously this game is bags of fun, and by its nature demands a lot of social networking to succeed. I guess it’s another way to establish pseudo-relationships with virtual friends you’re never likely to meet!
iPad Games: More Free iPad Games: Virtual Families Free for iPad
With another free games app review here on iPad.net we look at Virtual Families Free for iPad. All fans of the ‘Sims’ franchise will adore this game, which takes many of its ideas from the famous EA Games phenomenon. Virtual Families on the iPad is a direct relative to its desktop version, which is also available as a free download. Although only released a couple of days ago, Virtual Families Free for iPad already occupies the number 2 spot in most downloaded simulation games in the USA.
iPad Games: More Free iPad Games: Real Solitaire Free
Over the next few days we’ll be reviewing some more of the best free games here on www.iPad.net. First up is Real Solitaire Free by EdgeRift. Solitaire is such an historic and well known game that it barely needs an introduction. This EdgeRift version gives you various playing options and has been designed specifically with the iPad in mind, complete with crisp clear graphics and discrete playing sounds. As a free app, Real Solitaire Free contains advertisements which occupy the bottom of the screen. I’ve heard some people moan and groan about this. Come on guys: EdgeRift have to make their money somehow, and the onscreen adverts really don’t interfere with gameplay. If you really don’t like ads in your apps, then there are plenty of paid gaming apps on a Solitaire theme.
